“Nice Stay

Hi all,

Me and my girlfriend booked our holiday only two weeks before departure. We found the Ruuk Village online and actually booked on the way to the airport. Everything worked perfect, even the airport pick up, which I was skeptical about, since my down payment was very late.

To make things short:

Accommodation: the cabana was clean and big enough for the two of us. We got left alone by mosquitoes due to the net provided.

Food: I’m in love with Asian food. So this place is perfect for that. The kitchen team produces fresh, local food every day. One thing we would not do if in power of the kitchen: try to “copy western” food, since local food is all we need! But that is just us. Pizza out of the oven was still awesome.

Ruuk Village
Staff is always working to improve the village. We like the whole set up and the idea. I actually enjoyed to think a little about when to charge the phone, even power was available when ever needed.
The staff is helpful and always smiling.

Kitesurfing
We came here in order for my girlfriend to learn how to kite. The kite staff achieved that. For myself, there was enough wind every day to kitesurf with a 13sq kite.

In general I like the idea of providing accommodation which is, to local standards, eco friendly.
Are there things that could be made more ecological ... sure. Could I complain about that after flying 13hr for a stupid Holliday ... definitely not. Would I come back ... definitely yes, but different season to be preferred.

I am sure I forgot something, but you should come here and experience it yourself.

With so many tourists trailing the Sri Lankan package it is great and refreshing to find Ruuk Village.
Run entirely by Sri Lankans, the place is frequented by independent travellers, who embrace the simplicity of living amongst nature. Having said that, there is plenty of comfort, good quality beds, delicious food cooked by local women with fresh fish which they catch just on the shore in front of the cabanas, stacks of fresh fruit and yummy curries. Dining is a social affair, everybody eats together at one long table, and at least three or four nationalities are present at anyone time making for good conversations.We we older by years, but don’t let that put you off, you can still learn to kite surf , (it is one of the best place for kite surfing) go for walks, visit the village, paddle on the lagoon and see local fisherman standing in a long row pulling the nets from the sea. Dolphin watching is also an amazing experience. You can laze about in a hammock and read, or shower under the stars. A greta place to relax before or after the cultural triangle.”

Nun möchte ich schon noch einen krönenden Abschluss anfügen.
Natürlich ist es Jammern auf hohem Niveau. Es ist eine ausführliche Berichterstattung, wie ich die Dinge gerade in dieser Zeit erlebt habe und soll nicht als absolut gelten. Mir ist es dabei wichtig, dass du/ihr daraus was rausnehmen könnt um allenfalls was zu verbessern, oder einfach auch um zu hören wie wunderbar ihr seit...
Ich habe mir für das Feedback genügend Zeit genommen. Da ich weiss, dass dies auch wichtig für alle Ruukvillage People ist, die mich auch darum gebeten haben.
Eine Rückmeldung zu geben ist das mindeste was ich diesen wunderbaren Menschen zurückgeben kann.
Ich glaube es half auch mir, nochmals meine Ferien kurz erneut zu durchleben...
Ich hatte excellente Ferien, welche mich sehr bereicherten. Bin sehr fröhlich und mit ganz vielen Eindrücken und unverheilten entzündeten Stellen, Fieber & vielen Emotionen nachhause gekehrt. Habe viele tolle Begegnungen erlebt, Herzensmenschen getroffen, wieder die Passion Kiten gespührt, (leider nicht so oft wie ich es mir gewünscht hätte) und 2 Wochen fröhlich im Familienparadies gelebt!!!
Die Verbindung & die Nähe zu den Einheimischen mit ihren Persönlichkeiten, hat mich fröhlich gestimmt und mich sehr berührt!!! Ich habe den guten Service & die Menschlcihkeit sehr geschätzt und auch einiges über Sri Lanka erfahren.

“Top-Unterkunft wenn man ein paar Details beachtet”

Ich war für zwei Tage im Ruuk Village: Ruhe unter Palmen, Hängematten, schöne Hütten, gutes Essen, nette Leute.
Die Hütten liegen traumhaft schön am Sandstrand unter Palmen und man bekommt genau was man gebucht hat: saubere Hütten mit zwei Betten, Moskitonetz und Dusche an der Palme dahinter.
Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet, Reis mit Curry, Gegrillter Fisch, Frühstück.

Aber man sollte Folgendes unbedingt wissen:
- die Duschen sind nicht heiß (aber eine angenehm lauwarme Erfrischung)
- Strom gibt’s nur wenn die Sonne scheint, abends ab 17 Uhr oder auf Wunsch
- in der Regenzeit wird man mit dem Boot direkt vom Kai abgeholt (anrufen!)

Für mich waren es drei wunderschöne Tage - genau das Richtige, um im Urlaub anzukommen und um runter zu kommen vom hektischen Alltag.

Man stelle sich ein Dorf vor, wo man selbst nichts zu tun hat außer zu entspannen! Nicht mal essen muss man selbst zubereiten. Man hat seine eigene kleine Hütte (Cabana), mit allen was man braucht, Bett, einer Dusche und einer Veranda. Hier kann man seine Sorgen so richtig mal loslassen!
Ruuk Village ist eine tolle Idee, die den Besucher das gibt was sie erwarten!
Das Service ist rund um Perfekt! Das Essen grandios! Die Lage umwerfend! Direkt vor dem eingang zum Gelände ist eine Lagune.

The food is amazing, the staff really friendly, the cabana simple but good and your personal outdoor shower is a winner. I was traveling by myself, so personally I prefer a place with more people. There were only 2 other guests when I was there. Overall a good value for your money :)

Der grosse Tisch zum gemeinsamen Frühstück und Abendessen lädt ein, neue Leute kennen zu lernen. Alles sehr familiär und freundlich. Man fühlt sich wohl. Das Essen ist hervorragend. Die Unterkünfte des Ruuk Village sind sauber. Die Dusche draussen hinter dem Cottage, gibt dem Ganzen einen abenteuerlichen Touch. Und der Trip zu den Delfinen... Wow!
Von Colombo aus, muss man ca. 3-4 Stunden Reisezeit einplanen. Die Strasse nach Kalpitya ist nicht supersuper. Aber dafür ist die Ecke vom Tourismus auch noch ziemlich unberührt.

“TOLLER ORT ZUM ÜBERNACHTEN
Wir waren hier für 5 Nächte und es war einfach perfekt. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, das Frühstück war sehr lecker. Die Bungalows waren sauber, geräumig und gut ausgestattet mit einem dazugehörigen Open Air Dusche (Sand) und super bequeme Betten. Lage Kitesurfen ist großartig, wenn Sie Ihre eigene Ausrüstung haben, dann können Sie einfach nur 100 m vor den Bungalows. Zu vermieten Ausrüstung, nehmen Sie das Boot Shuttle oder ein tuc-tuc auf die andere Seite der Lagune. Auf jeden Fall das beste Preis/Leistungsverhältnis können Sie ganze Kalpitiya.

Ein paar Schilder auf der Straße (es ist brandneu, sogar viele die Einheimischen wissen es nicht), ein Spiegel für die Damen und es wäre super perfekt sein ...”

The kitesurfing in the lagoon and on open water is priceless and the wind conditions are great! Several good kite centers are available nearby.
