  • Each visitor needs to buy a $10 ticket at the Department of Wildlife, unless they have a Sri Lankan passport. Expats must show their passport with a visible resident visa, which may change the ticket price. Please contact us before your visit to Kalpitiya for pricing details. The boat will pick you up from our gate and return you after the dolphin safari. Refreshments (ginger beer, water, and salt crackers) and lunch (rice and curry) will be provided after the tour.

    NOTE: Some hints about the "Cost Vs Service" in our blog. Cost per person reduces as the number of guests taking part in the excursion increases. 

    Kalpitiya is ideal for exploring the northwestern Indian Ocean. From November to April, when the sea is calm in the mornings, you can take a boat with certified guides to see dolphins. Each boat can carry a maximum of 6 guests, and swimming west is required, which is included in the trip.

Total excursion time varies; see examples below:

  • The dolphin tour lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours on its own.

  • If you add an island visit, it takes about 3 to 4 hours. Combining the dolphin tour with snorkeling at the bar reef also takes around 3 to 4 hours.

  • Dolphin Safari (whales may also be seen)

  • Dolphin tour followed by a picnic at Wella Island (extra cost)

  • Visit the Elephant Tree/Bio Bab Tree (extra cost)

  • Explore the old Dutch church in Dutch Bay (extra cost)

  • Mangroves tour (extra cost)

  • Snorkeling at Barr-reef with an island picnic (extra cost; you can choose to spend the day on one of the islands and return before sunset)

    You can do both a dolphin tour and snorkeling, but it's best to plan them separately. The dolphin tour takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, and snorkeling takes another 2 hours.
